SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — It’s one thing if a friend or relative “over-shares” online. But when it’s your movie streaming site of choice, people get upset. Now, Netflix says it will do a little less “sharing” of what its users check out.
Under the old system, Netflix subscribers who link the service to their Facebook accounts automatically tipped off users’ “friends” to everything they watched.
That’s fine if you don’t mind everyone knowing that you’ve been binge watching “Dexter” — but not so fine if you end up sharing that information with your boss or mother-in-law.
Netflix believes by going easy on the sharing, it can nudge more people toward linking the service to their Facebook profiles.
