Allman Brothers biopic shelved

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Filmmakers have stopped production on a movie about the life of Gregg Allman.

The decision comes a week after a freight train killed one crew member and injured seven others in Savannah, Georgia, where the movie is being made.

“Midnight Rider” stars William Hurt as the Allman Brothers Band singer in his later years.

The accident took place just as filming was getting started.

A train crashed into the crew and its equipment on a trestle crossing a river. Sheriff’s investigators said the film crew had permission to be on private property near the train tracks, but not on the tracks themselves.

Savannah officials say it’s unclear how long the production will be shut down.
