This year’s Emmy Awards air this Monday, so you’d better familiarize yourself with the term “EGOT.” If you don’t know already, “EGOT” stands for the entertainment industry’s most coveted awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Only twelve entertainers have reached EGOT status, winning all four statues in competitive awards. The last person to EGOT was songwriter Robert Lopez, who sealed the deal this year when he won an Oscar for writing Frozen’s oh-so-popular “Let It Go.” Before him the most recognizable names on the EGOT list were Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks and Audrey Hepburn.

This year’s Emmy awards could be EGOT step number two for Matthew McConaughey. He won an Oscar for last year’s Dallas Buyer’s Club, and he’s nominated for an Emmy thanks to his work on HBO’s True Detective. If he takes home the “Outstanding Lead Actor” award you can bet fans will start plotting the rest of his EGOT strategy.
