Sign Language Classes

The Center for the Study and Use of Total Communication at the Willie Ross School for the Deaf announces its Spring 2014 Sign Language Program.  The spring term will begin on February 25, 2014 and continue through June 3, 2014.  Classes at the Willie Ross School’s Longmeadow campus are offered at Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Conversation levels in simultaneous voice and sign.  Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. for 14 weeks.  You are invited to register by mail, on line or registrations will be taken in person on February 25, 2014 from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.  For a registration form or more information, please call the school at 567-0374 (V/TDD) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Please visit our website for a registration form at www.willierossschool.org and look under Outreach Services or visit us on Facebook.

Open Mic Nights at the Brick House

Share your music, poetry or art in a supportive atmosphere on Thursday, March 20, and the third Thursday of every month. The Brick House Community Resource Center, 24 Third St, in Turners Falls will be hosting a community open mic called The Bridge. All ages are welcome. No drugs/alcohol. Light refreshments and food provided. Signup starts at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m.

New England Sled Hockey Tournament

Amelia Park Ice Arena is proud to announce that they will be hosting the 16th Annual New England Sled Hockey Invitational Tournament MAY 2-4, 2014. The tournament will consist of adult and junior divisions competing throughout the weekend from 7am-11:00pm (Friday & Saturday) and championship games (Sunday) from 7am-4:30pm.

Attendance to the tournament is FREE and will showcase over 200 athletes and coaches from eight states & Canada. Past & Present Paralympians, including 2014 Gold Medalist Taylor Chace, will be participating.

7th Annual Rockin’ BBQ for the Troops

The Rockin’ BBQ for the Troops Benefit has been held annually on Armed Forces Day since 2008. All money raised goes toward buying care packages for local troops who are deployed in harm’s way as well as other local veteran related causes. The event consists of live bands, food, raffles, keg beer, full cash bar, and more. The event cost is a $15 donation per person. It is held at American Legion Paper City Post 325 in Holyoke MA. Annually we draw between 200-300 people. It really is a great time for a great cause, our troops and our veterans.
